Waking Up in Wonderland at the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht

I LOVE Amsterdam. If it wasn't for the long, cold winters (and the visa process), I would already be living there. The history, the cute  buildings, the shops, the food, the bricks, the canals, the absolutely perfect little neighborhood streets. Every time I am in the city, I completely fall in love.... except for the cold. After close to a decade in New York, this beach baby can't survive another winter, but I always love to visit!

One of the stops on our fall Andaz Campaign was this beautiful city and we we were so excited to finally get to stay at the Andaz Amsterdam - one of the icons of the Andaz brand. The entire hotel is designed and filled with art by Marcel Wanders, and built to an Alice in Wonderland theme - with hallways filled with large and small doors, giant spoons, and the Mad Hatter's garden. It had been a dream of ours to stay here.

Our room overlooking the famous canals, and I love how these chairs are designed to look just like the iconic Dutch tulips.

I could have stopped on every single street for photos, they are all just so well-designed. We learned on this trip that the city center of Amsterdam has extremely strict building regulations, to preserve the aesthetic of the city, something I wish more cities had.

In the Mad Hatter's Garden.

At the Bluespoon Bar, Manager Martin creates some of the wildest and most interesting cocktails we have ever tried.

In Amsterdam, these can't be missed!

Exploring the Hortus Botanicus Gardens - one of my favorite discoveries of the entire city. Parts of the gardens honestly feel like stepping into a tropical rainforest- full of lush trees, birds, ponds, and a dirt floor. One of my other favorite spots here was the butterfly room - see the film at the end of this post for a glimpse of that! I could have stayed here forever.

More beautiful streets. Look at this house on the Canal! Can you even imagine living there?

A morning stop at the super cool MOCO Museum - filled with modern art and a massive collection of original Banksy pieces.

In the toy factory

And a real-life creation of a Roy Lichtenstein painting - a room that doesn't look real.

And of course, you can't really experience Amsterdam without taking a boat through the canals.

This gorgeous wooden boat is the newest offering from the Andaz - and seeing the city from the water was just as I had imagined.

The absolute best way to travel this city - on bikes.

At Bluespoon's famous Mad Hatter Sunday Brunch.

And a garden tea party fit for a fairytale.

The Andaz Amsterdam has one of the largest collections of video art in Europe, and an endless amount of screens tucked throughout the hotel playing a variety of video art pieces - some are beautiful, some are nonsensical, some are just downright bizarre, a little bit like the city itself.
